Microsoft created quite a commotion yesterday at E3 with a new Banjo Kazooie Nuts Bolts trailer (http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Banjo+Kazooie%3A+Nuts+%26+Bol ts&search_sort=video_date_uploaded), Halo Wars release date, xbox360 teaming with Netflix (http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/07/14/netflix-coming-to-xbox-360-with-live-content-sharing/), but the news of the day was “FFXIII” producer Yoshinori Kitase and Square Enix executive Shinji Hashimoto confirming that Final Fantasy XIII would indeed be released for xbox 360. Although take note that as of right now it will not be released in Japan for the 360.
Myself personally have always been a huge fan of Final Fantasy and feel this is a big blow to Sony, with that said is anybody even looking forward to this game?

Sony's #1 potential moneymaker in my eyes has now been lost to genius marketing of Square-Enix. Fuck MGS4 for money. Halo > MSG4 for popularity (nearly the only two big platform-specific games), + the latest price-drop of the 360? $300 as opposed to the still-high $500 of the PS3? Yeah, 360's takingen over. All the PS3 now has is Blu-Ray, I'd say.
AND ALL FUCKING RIGHT, I CAN GET THE NEW FINAL FANTASY WITHOUT CRYING OVER NOT HAVING A PLAYSTATION 3.

XBox sales don't do too well over in Japan last time I checked. When the original XBox came out, people were picking it up as a DVD player (at the time, the PS2's laser was lax).
Fuck MGS4 for money. Halo > MSG4 for popularity...
wat
Dude, you only say the because you don't have MSG4. Halo is a pretentious franchise, bathed in so much mediocrity. The game has the difficulty curve of a bump on a log, and as soon as online gaming becomes more standard, only people's mindless fanaticism will keep it aloft.
Well, I suppose I made this into an argument about which game is better. I think it's clear in that case. When you say Halo makes more money, I don't doubt that whole lot, come to think about it. Mindless fanaticism has kept things like Naruto and Thrice going, it's safe to say it will support Halo quite a bit longer. Halo's not terrible, but it's not great. Metal Gear Solid is great, and I'm ready to deal with the flak for saying it.

All I speak of is popularity, as you figured.
Oh, and most of the good+ current-gen RPGs are being released for the 360 anyway (now with FFXIII in the mix, you can't argue against that too much, even if you claim the series now sucks). Aside from Folklore maybe, though I haven't heard much about its quality since its release.

Yep, it seems MGS rocks Halo in every aspect but one: mainstream popularity.
While interest in FFXIII doesn't really exist for me (outside of following the soap opera-esque story between the company and its fans), I was shocked when I first heard about this. Not because of the decision itself, but because it was announced so early. Wasn't expecting that Square would have the balls to release one of their most hyped games on the Xbox 360, but it seems like they've actually paid attention and noticed that the console's got a decent RPG market now (thanks, Mistwalker!). What I was expecting: something along the lines of dismal sales when the game is finally released in 2012, followed by a decision to go mutliplatform in pursuit of profit.
Kinda funny how it's one of the biggest announcements at this year's E3. Square Enix has come a long way, eh?

I wouldn't be so quick to write off the PS3. I really don't know why people don't seem to understand this, but the PS3 now is exactly where the PS2 was two years after it's launch.
ANYWAY, I've about as much interest in FF these days as I do the mechanics of fucking broken glass to be honest. However, Versus is still going to be a PS3 exclusive. Something tells me that's going to piss off quite a few fantards.
Also, the 360 nor the PS3 are the consoles for RPGs. The 360 has what, four so far? Final Fantasy XIII makes five. The PS2 is still the console for RPGs (especially with Persona 4 coming out next year), so it looks like Sony win in a very meaningless way.

meh. Interesting, I suppose, but far from being enough to make me buy an xbox 360. I was kind of hoping the arcade edition would get a price drop, too.

Truth. PS2 and DS are good enough to meet my RPG needs.
Bottom line, the only news I'm waiting on is news of the next ICO/Shadow of the Colossus game.

I made a pretty detailed reply to this thread just before my Internet died including DS and PS2 RPG culness and how by "current-gen" I meant games released on the PS3, 360, and Wii. That's sadly about al-- k, so it was about Versus, too:

Oh, and I didn't realize P4 was coming out for the PS2, let alone at all.

Oh, and I didn't realize P4 was coming out for the PS2, let alone at all.I recently bought out all the Shin Megami Tensei games for the PS2, and yeah. I've pretty much become a frothing-mouth fantard about them, so I had to change pants after hearing about it getting a release date (12/09/08).
Anyway...
Are people seriously that bothered over Final Fantasy XIII? When was the last good Final Fantasy, again? The last I recall, it's been awhile.*

I don't doubt that this kind of behavior exists, but a Final Fantasy being released on the XBox is no reason to get angry. I don't think it's about Square at all. I think it's just puppy-love for Sony; which is still sad, considering both companies suck.

Oh, and also. Final Fantasy used to be for Nintendo. And his little argument about Konami not "fucking-over their fans"; well, if fucking-over your fans means you release games for different consoles, Metal Gear used to be for Nintendo as well. In addition to that, Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance was originally released as a XBox-only title.

Well, fanboyism extremism, be it for video games, music, movies, religion and everything I'm forgetting is stupid and should be remedied with a good beating of sense into the skull. With a shovel if possible.
It's impressive how small things, unimportant things sometimes seem to take so much importance in the lives of some people. It's a shame that they don't can't realize how futile of a thing this is. If they could, I'm sure they'd kick themselves in the back of the head and do something else. How can someone let a hobby become more than that to the point of insanity is simply beyond me.

I know I'm delayed posting here...but I don't care.
I was -really- looking forward to final fantasy 13 on the ps3...I've -always- been impressed with the graphics and advancements sony continues to creat...but...I'm sort of disheartened about it now; I've never really liked the xbox at all. If sony sinks, I'm suiciding. =/
Iron Octopus
July 27th, 2008, 03:24 PM
Sony won't sink. The only country they don't have a leg-up in is really America, and they're sort of backed by a multi-billion dollar conglomerate. I don't have loyalty for any console, just thought I'd clear that up. Xbox fanboys like to make it look like Sony is a sinking ship.
Sam
July 27th, 2008, 07:19 PM
I'm not sure if I've said this before, but XBox is only really popular in America. Though I'm not sure how it is over in Europe, Japan deems the XBox as more of a DVD-player than anything else.
As for Sony being a sinking ship, that's clearly an exaggeration. I play Grand Theft Auto 4 with no problems on the PlayStation 3. With the XBox 360, however, there's a lot of problems with the RAM it appears. I get pop-ups frequently and get little graphic glitches such as floating cars, or no cars at all. I attribute this to XBox 360's early release, perhaps if they built their specs based-off of their competition, they would have more formidable hardware.
But, again, I don't know much about the XBox. If they have hardware addons, or if they plan on stepping up their system anytime soon.

I don't know what kind of convoluted bullshit of an argument was going on in here before, but I've been watchin' some friends play FF THIRTEEN lately and it doesn't seem to suck nearly as much dong as I was expecting (linearity aside, which pretty much kills the replay value of the thing.) Kind of makes me nostalgic for the days when Square games genuinely kicked ass, for some reason, and I figure that's a good thing.
I mean, even at a glance, it seems more interesting than X and XII to me.. i.e., something I might actually be interested in playing myself in the future.
anyone else have a chance to experience this madness?

Got it on launch day (I got the limited edition, which comes with a book, a sampler of the soundtrack and some STICKERS).
Clocked in about 15+ hours so far. In my opinion, I think it's really good. A lot has been said about the game's linearity; one review said it was similar to a corridor-shooter, and I would agree. I think Square-Enix are just trying new things with the series, so at least they're trying to change things up a bit.
I had my doubts about the battle system at the start of the game, but I have grown to enjoy it as I go along. The Paradigm Shifts are great as well; not too sophisticated, but yet there's some depth for customisation. It's great when a gameplan comes together against a huge boss.
The score for this game is fuckin' amazing tho. Great stuff.
In short, enjoying it so far.

sweet deal on getting the whole shebang. I heard that the CE book's pretty badass.
the score is definitely pretty fkn fantastic. I'm generally not even a Hamauzu fan (despite Conspera's hardcore attempts to convert me into an aficionado) and his Dirge of Cerberus score was an absolute snore, but this stuff's killer.
I'd listened to a few of the tracks before the game came out and pretty much didn't care enough to see if I actually liked 'em, but it's amazing how much the music lends to the atmosphere of the game and, naturally, how much better the music becomes after hearing it in-game (the nostalgia effect, etc.)

Had that been the case, I would have reserved a copy of the game. Alas, the only thing that was offered at GameStop was a limited edition guide which apparently is a small version of the official guide. That's it. I was expecting something more grander given the special treatment that FF XII received (tin box edition + goodies). Then again, there was the Xbox 360 special edition package which I simply couldn't afford...
I just bought the game (PS3 version) on the official day. I am about to start playing it. Here's to a hope!

I really couldn't care less about linearity, or lack of towns, or whatever people are complaining about. However, like Kanji said, FF hasn't had a whole lot going for it for 10 years now.
Having played just about every final fantasy to date, I sort of feel obligated to play it, but I'm in no rush. I'll check it out when its price has dropped to like a third of what it is now.

And what's with this PS3 browser logging me out when I just clicked "You have a worthless opinion" button?
Currently I'm 18 hours in, chapter 6 of the game with Sazh and Vanille as my party. Forgot the name of the place but it's very green. Enjoying the hell out of the Paradigm Shifts though it's annoying that the game doesn't allow me to change members from my main party. The game automatically sets up your party and you're stuck with it until there's some difference of opinion among them or event that splits everyone up. Which I must say it's rather interesting since nobody exactly concurs with the same goal and as such, each go their own way. Unlike other Final Fantasy titles where everyone simply stays withing the same group for the entirety of the game even if each of the characters have a different opinion. At least the ones I've played since I haven't played all of 'em.
And also, love how Lighting lacks the sense of tact.
Oh, and I got my ass royally kicked by Odin. Overpowered bastard.
Edit: Now in Palumpolum (Chapter 7), Lighting & Hope. I knew I had to stack up on a lot of CP. At least I don't need a whole lot to finish off ravege for both of 'em.

It's the Samsung p2470hd. It's a Full HD 24" pc monitor, with TV-tuner. That way I have both a HD-screen and a dual screen setup for my pc. I can connect my PS3 and dvd with 5.1 surround to it. All at once. Damn I can't wait. :D

So yeah dude, where's that picture with everything set-up or have you been swept away by the world of Cocoon? Wouldn't blame you if it's the latter.
Game progress: Chapter 9, on board the Palemecia (I wanted to cry "Ultimecia!") with Lightning, Fang (I absolutely love her) and Hope as my party. Snow I can't use 'cause the game doesn't let me but I don't really care. Got Fang! Everyone's at Level 3 in their Chrystarium roles so I'm blasting away. Thank god I did some heavy grinding in Hope's home (ch. 7).

Actually, both are 1080p. That's full HD as we know it nowadays. That 2470 you talk of, is part of my screens model number. :p
So both have the exact same resolution, except yours is a bit bigger. My screen has the perfect size for where I use it though. On the first picture below btw, you can see my bed at the bottom left. I can turn my screen around and play from there whenever I want. ^^

Har har, I get to see your progress. :]
Game progress:
So, confident that I had enough CP stocked, I went to fight off Barthandelus. Kicked hiss ass and I walked off with 70,000+ CP and my Chrystarium expanded. Once I was able to level up my party, I had about 59,000 CP for Lightning, Hope, Vanille, Sazh, and Snow. Fang had the least but that was to be expected. So, head into the Fifth Arc (Ch.10) and what do you know, I can learn all other roles that had been unavailable to me. YAY! Finally Fang can learn Ravager.
But wait, it sounded too good to be true.
1,452,000 CP to completely upgrade Fang on all three roles; Ravager (579,000), Synergist (420,000) & Medic (453,000). Wtf. afhskfhsdfsf
I need to head back to chapter 9 to do some heavy grinding. Think I left off at code purple. Vikings, I'm gonna pound on you guys to death for those Superconductors. This is ridiculous.
Final
April 7th, 2010, 04:28 AM
Can't you do the grinding AFTER chapter 9? Because if not, I'm gonna have to search through my crapload of savefiles.
Ilythia
April 10th, 2010, 12:22 AM
Actually, after discovering the amount of CP I needed (didn't even bother to fight any of the Pulse enemies), I loaded my chapter 9 file without a second thought. Did a bit of grinding when I accidentally overwrote my chapter 10 file.. so I have no idea.
I don't particularly like heading into a new chapter completely unprepared cp wise. I like my characters to be fully upgraded save for their weapons. Which is also the reason why I'm doing the grinding in chapter 9; Credit/ Incentive Chips and Superconductors.
Haven't played the game for a couple of days due to me suddenly being so busy that I don't have time to even be online. lol So I guess it's up to you to find out.
Ilythia

Today has been an awesome day thus far. Funny commercials, funny people.. just a kickass Sunday morning.
So, after getting a bit bored of grinding endlessly, I decided to change the pace and "rescue" my other team members: Sazh and Vanille. I was recommended to use Sazh's summon by a dear comrade who already finished the game. After switching around my party, I used his summon.
I am dying of laughter (game's on pause at the moment). Sazh is so damned funny. Actually, he's been funny since the beginning of the game.
Can't recall how it went but the slippey tube. Do no slip on the slippery tube... someone help me out on this.
Chapter 9: (after Vanille & Sazh make their debut entrance), Snow: There you are!
Sahz: Miss me?
Snow: Not you, the monster!
Oh and the exchange between Lightning and Fang!
Ilythia
May 23rd, 2010, 08:37 PM
Aight. So the maximum amount of CP you can collect is 999,999. Why oh why was I not surprised? So there went my hopes of completely finishing up those roles.
Was forced to go on ahead with Chapter 10 which was a ridiculous breeze. Cid was surprisingly easy though I was overpowered. lol However, after beating that guy my Chrystarium was expanded. No way in hell was I going to grind in Ch. 10. >=|
Moving on to Chapter 11, 'sup Gran Pulse! Ahem. WTF, NO INCENTIVE CHIPS?!?!!?!? ugh
Got my ass kicked royally by a group of sabretooth/ dog hybrids + Behemoth King. My fault mainly since I forgot to put a Sentinel/ Ravager/ Commando role. Forgot how useful Sentinels were. >_o
So, my main party consists of Fang, Hope and Lightning. Snow is my least favorite character followed by Vanille. What's up with her and her orgasmic sounds? Sazh is cool. 'nuff said.
